Demands for Strong Authentication Will Affect MSPs' SLAs

Managed service providers often use many personnel to serve their enterprise clients. This makes access control difficult when clients' networks require strong, token-based authentication; service-level agreements may be affected. Managed service providers must take their enterprise clients' internal network access requirements into account when drafting contracts and service-level agreements. Because customers will demand smart-card access control or token-based methods that will be difficult to deploy, MSPs should consider offering alternative access-control mechanisms, such as Secure Sockets Layer virtual private network technology. MSPs should modify their SLAs to recognize these changes in enterprise demands.
