With the availability of new and highly efficient 80 PLUS Power Supplies (PS), a new and rigorous ENERGY STAR (ES) standard will be introduced on July 20, 2007 to replace and rescind any previous ES qualifications. Currently, 98% of computers meet the ES 3.0 standards. The EPA, responsible for the Energy Star guidelines, expects that less than 25% will qualify for ES 4.0. HP has made Energy Star 4.0 a priority and is creating a variety of ES 4.0-compliant configurations. An 80 PLUS power supply is an ES 4.0 requirement. Any workstation with an 80 PLUS PS option will benefit from energy efficiencies whether ES 4.0 compliant or not.
