Greven City Council operates six servers simultaneously to meet the database needs of approximately 70 different specialist processes within the city's local administration. The challenge was to speed up slow, computer-intensive operations, such as the monthly payroll run, and enable parallel running of processes and improve the daily backup, which prevented processing or accessing online applications after 10 p.m. Greven City Council worked with Oracle Consulting to minimize the hardware the city council needed by implementing Oracle Database 11g with Real Application Clusters and achieved a marked improvement in performance across all departments as a result of facilitating the running of parallel processes, including accounting processes.
