Node segmentation provides a good tool for cable operators to increase targeted ser1ces, such as EOD, Internet data, and telephony. In many cases, cable operators have limited fibers and/or they could reclaim fibers for emerging opportunities such as commercial services. WDMICWDMIDWDM techniques offer better utilization of the existing fiber resources. Simple WDM techniques can double the fiber capacity, and CWDMIDWDM techniques can Increase the capacity multiple times. Recently, equipment vendors have developed new solutions for multi-wavelength downstream broadcast transport that are more cost-effective and more operationally friendly than what was previously available. Cable operators need to evaluate their requirements and select the best solutions that fit them.
