Nowadays it is imperative for organizations to maintain archival storage, but "Deep" archiving remains a great challenge. It is not always a feasible solution to keep disks powered on and serviced for up to 30 years or more. While backup tapes are removable and securable, they carry their own long-term readability and reliability concerns and limits. Holographic data storage emerges as the next and new solution for long-term archival storage. This is true because of this technology's ability to sustain large capacities of data and decades of media stability. As conventional data storage techniques, such as Blu-ray, reach the denser limit of data density, holographic data storage has the potential to become the next generation of popular storage solutions.
