IT departments of all sizes are increasingly relying on self-managing systems. The key benefit, of course, is cost savings - but self-managing systems also address organizations' lack of onsite technical expertise and the nonfeasability of managing systems individually. Solution providers often seek to provide systems with embedded components that require little to no administration. Embedded installations enable ISVs and OEMs to build critical technology directly into their products so they can develop solutions targeted specifically to the needs of their market. In an embedded solution, database software is fully integrated into the business application or device so the end user has little or no knowledge that the database software exists. In essence, the database is completely invisible to the application user.
