This paper proposes a novel approach, named Distributed Adaptive Scheduling (DAS), to schedule meetings for distributed groupware with varied user schedules. DAS is an application developed upon the lightweight multi-agent platform DIET. In contrast to other scheduling methods, every user in DAS can actively propose their preferred time intervals and negotiate with other users in order to gain the maximum success of their proposals. For scheduling meetings flexibly and efficiently, a set of lightweight, mobile agents, called co-ordination agents, are created to negotiate and co-ordinate among users, so users can be relieved from intensive co-ordination work.
