For many years, customers have realized the benefits of IBM's PowerHA Cluster Manager (formerly High Availability Cluster Multi-Processing (HACMP)) for AIX software to improve the availability of their applications. Additionally, some of those have benefitted from the Extended Distance add-on (PowerHA/XD formerly HACMP/XD) to provide Disaster Recovery to their availability solution. The problem for many is that moving from the local to geographically separated environments presents significant complexities as well as costs that sometimes make the move seemingly impossible.
