Much of the initial promise of WiMAX for the US market is being diluted by vendor "Group think" that places too great an emphasis on as yet unavailable (for the US market) mobile variants of WiMAX (802.16e and 802.16m). The problem may be that the industry is focused too far in the future on products that may not generate a competitive return on investment compared to the less sophisticated fixed WiMAX technology that can fix service provider and subscriber "Pain" today.
