Grid computing, traditionally used largely by scientific and academic communities to pursue compute-intensive research endeavors, has been slow to enter the commercial arena. Grid technologies and applications have continued to evolve, but development in the areas of Grid accounting and service level agreements for the Grid has not kept pace. The lack of an infrastructure and standardized communication to manage agreements between Grid providers and consumers is a significant obstacle to commercial adoption of Grid technologies. Service-Level Agreements (SLAs) are crucial for a viable commercial Grid marketplace. This paper reviews four approaches to service-level agreement infrastructures and presents requirements and examples for commercial Grid SLAs.
