Clustering makes several independent systems appear like one. Together, the clustered system is more scalable than an individual system. The clustered system masks the failure of a member - and hence is more available. This paper first establishes the salient characteristics to look for in any clustered system. It then discusses how several systems running 9iAS Release 2 can be clustered together for better scalability, availability, and manageability.
