SongDo Hospital, South Korea's first Colon and Rectal Specialty Hospital opened in 1987. While SongDo Hospital aimed to improve medical services and work efficiency by converting its paper-based medical records into electronic medical records, it also wanted to meet challenges encountered in its ward monitoring rounds. This was very labor intensive and involved managing patient chart information for accuracy and ensuring that the charts were always kept up to date in the wards. The work processes involved consumed precious staff time that could be better spent providing quality medical care for patients. To overcome the challenge and improve the overall quality of medical care, SongDo Hospital decided to deployed notebook PCs built on Intel Centrino mobile technology to solve the problem.
