SongDo Hospital, South Korea's first Colon and Rectal Specialty Hospital opened in 1987. While SongDo Hospital aimed to improve medical services and work efficiency by converting its paper-based medical records into electronic medical records, it also wanted to meet challenges encountered in its ward monitoring rounds. This was very labor intensive and involved managing patient chart information for accuracy and ensuring that the charts were always kept up to date in the wards.
