Yahoo! is a name familiar to computers users around the world. The popular search engine serves as a portal to the Internet for millions of people each day, enabling them to quickly find a wealth of information on practically any subject. Yahoo! wanted to increase processing capabilities to keep up with the demands of advanced search engine technologies and maximize cost-effectiveness of new server infrastructure to maintain business competitiveness. The challenge was to meet energy efficiency goals for power and cooling in the data center. Yahoo boost processing capacity with a server refresh based on the Intel Xeon processor 5400 series as well as increased cost-efficiency with two quad-core processors per server.
