A Web Service is a software application identified by a URI, whose interfaces and bindings are capable of being described in XML, e.g. by means of the Web Service Description Language (WSDL) and which can directly interact with other software agents using XML-based messages (represented in the SOAP format) exchanged via Internet protocols (HTTP or SMTP). This paper discusses the modeling of Web Services with the help of the UML-Based Rule Modeling Language (URML) developed by the REWERSE Working Group I1 for the semantic business process management on the Web. In order to support rule interchange between different rule engines, the paper has developed a general rule language, called R2ML, with an XML serialization format.
