U.S. college campuses have been at the forefront of the environmental movement for the past 35 years. For all that colleges and universities have done in raising the level of environmental awareness in terms of energy efficiency, conservation, renewable energy and water efficiency, aside from these issues, campus buildings themselves have received little attention for their environmental impact. The next phase of the environmental movement on campus will be to initiate programs that "green" college and university facilities, both new and existing.
