Status Report on Nuclear Energy Industry Initiative to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

This paper describes about the upgrades to be taken in Nuclear Power Generation. Upgrades already approved and completed or planned total 4,315 megawatts. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has approved 2,296 megawatts of upgrades in the last several years. These approved upgrades have been completed or soon will be completed at U.S. nuclear power plants. The NRC is currently reviewing applications for upgrades totaling 1,072 MW. This review process typically takes 18 months. Based on information from nuclear plant operators, the NRC expects applications for an additional 947 megawatts of upgrades through 2008.
