In the days before the optical SAN operations, disaster recovery meant physically taking a tape over to a server to restore the data. Prior to implementing an optical solution, Baptist Health relied on multiple T1s between its data centers, which made it very difficult to scale and support full data replication and disaster recovery for a resilient business continuity solution. Today, Nortel's high performance Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) Optical Metro 5200 Multiservice Platform, EMC Symmetrix systems and EMC TimeFinder, and Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) software provide business continuity by automating the process of rapid and reliable backup and disaster recovery.
