To achieve the seemingly conflicting goals, one of the largest Blue Cross and Blue Shield health insurers in the U.S. looked to advances in data capture and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to improve the handling of its paper-based UB92 and HCFA 1500 claim form receipts - of which it processes over 22 million a year. Following a lengthy evaluation of several vendors and solution options, the company partnered with R2K Inc., a leading systems integration and application development firm, to provide a solution. In turn, R2K looked to industry leader Captiva Software to provide the key components, which included InputAccel as the platform for high-volume scanning and FormWare as the core OCR functionality.
