Industrial Distribution Group (IDG) is a nationwide supplier of maintenance, repair, operating, and production products and services to manufacturers and other industrial users. IDG was formed in 1997 through the combination of several previously independent industrial distribution companies. The resulting IT network included offices with uniquely configured systems and applications, making it difficult for the company's IT team to provide a stable and consistent environment. To lay the foundation for remote software inventory, centralized software distribution, and centralized software configuration, the company deployed the Windows Server 2008 Enterprise operating system.
