A new, online smooth transmission scheme for layered video streaming through heterogeneous networks is proposed with more efficient bandwidth utilization and smaller delay than existed methods. To transmit online video smoothly and prevent server and client buffers from underflowing and overflowing, a novel feedback transmission schedule is designed. Large buffers for average video smoothing lead to extended end-to-end delays. The proposed transmission scheme with linear prediction can transmit layered video smoothly, introduce a small average end-to-end delay and have good bandwidth utilization.
