The paper uses a 3 layer feed forward Artificial Neural Network (ANN) using back propagation algorithm as a framework to classify customers of a German automobile company into different categories. This classification is performed on the three divisions of the company. The breakdown of customers into different categories is primarily done on the basis of invoicing data and forms an important component in the concept of Data Mining. The concept of classification in Data Mining using neural networks involves taking day to day invoicing data of the customers as the base. From this raw data the intelligent data is extracted through the process of data cleaning and relevance analysis.
