East Industries is a pallet remanufacturing and recycling company that specializes in reusable wooden pallets and shipment packaging. They are part of an estimated $10 billion U.S. pallet industry. Precise knowledge of the usable-materials-to-scrap ratio is a critical profitability factor, but that detail was not being tracked by East with its current system. The Microsoft Office System, particularly new capabilities in Microsoft Office Access 2003 and Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, in combination with hosted Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services provided the solution that the company needed. A more comprehensive in-bound pallet inventory management system was created that captured vital data. Executives will use the information to more effectively manage employee productivity, and improve customer service and communication.
