Off late, SCU had an outdated network that was increasingly experiencing failures. Most of its existing 3Com equipment was old and difficult to manage, and with its growing traffic loads and the additional applications it planned to deploy, SCU began shopping for new infrastructure equipment. Extreme Networks provided SCU, with its 104-acre campus, with more than 225 switches for the core, residence hall network, information technology server farm, administrative systems, and DeMilitarized Zone (DMZ). The equipment includes BlackDiamond 6808, Alpine 3804, Summit1i, Summit5i, Summit7i, Summit48si, Summit 200-48, and Summit 300-48 switches, and Extreme Networks also provided the university with its EPICenter management suite.
