Translation Initiation Sites (TIS) are important signals in cDNA sequences. Many research efforts have tried to predict TIS in cDNA sequences. This paper proposes a new data mining approach that integrates multiple data encoding features to generate numerical data from the cDNA sequences. Some of the features have not been used before. By applying an attribute selection method, the paper identified the significant features to recognize TIS. With the identified features, the system improved the correlation coefficient from 0.696 to 0.77. This is a 10% improvement over previous best effort. Also, the identified features are biologically meaningful.
