Situated within the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, WBIC uses Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans to study changes in brain function after injury. Expanding research programmes at the facility was increasing data by two terabytes each month. To speed up the processing of brain images and allow for faster research analysis, WBIC needed to replace an ageing system, and install additional servers. The solution had to ensure compatibility with bespoke brain scanning applications, and meet its strict budget requirements. WBIC received three separate tenders for this project. And, it was a Dell High Performance Computing Cluster (HPCC) solution that offered the best value for money.
