Off late, the penetration of the broadband access accelerates the capacity demand for the optical communication networks. Advancement of 10G Ethernet supports this increased demand for both metropolitan area networks and wide area networks. The traffic of these networks is still increasing in a steady pace, and more capacity will be required for the Ethernet in the future. As the bit rate of the Ethernet has been increased 10 times step, the next generation will require 100Gbit/s technology. 107Gbit/s ETDM transmitters with duobinary modulation and NRZ modulation have already been reported, but 100G electronics is not a matured technology, and specially designed electrical components shall be required.
