New Ethernet/IP architecture-broadband loop carrier using new distributed intelligence and employing Ethernet and IP-enables carriers to overcome the existing barriers to healthy profit margins and deliver new bandwidth-intensive services. Other access network architectures including Next-Gen DLC and New SONET/ATM while capable of supporting most of these services do so less flexibly and with higher Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). New Ethernet/IP's Total Cost of Ownership advantage over Next-Gen DLC and New SONET/ATM is 62% and 29% respectively when used to support a three-phase build-out of a typical access network reflecting a broad range of access network densities and remote terminal configurations.
