United Airlines wanted to enhance employee engagement in the business and its financial recovery, which in turn has been found to have a strong, quantifiable correlation to customer loyalty. The challenge was to enable employees to take more control over their careers, initiate HR and benefits activities, and increase their understanding of how they impact the airline's financial recovery. SkyNet, built on BEA WebLogic Portal 8.1 and supported by a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), is an intranet that offers a wide range of content and applications relevant to the 65,000 members of the United Airlines employee community.
