Bardstown school district launched one of the first school Web sites in the state of Kentucky - giving parent's online access to school resources, administration personnel, and teachers. As the workload on the Bardstown IT infrastructure grew, server and storage capacity began to lag behind the needs of users. In addition, data backups became a challenge after the Kentucky Department of Education mandated a district-wide operating system upgrade to Microsoft Windows Server 2000 Active Directory which created compatibility problems between the backup software and the new operating system. In order to provide a stable platform for the many heterogeneous applications in its IT environment, Bardstown selected Dell PowerEdge 1750 servers and Dell PowerEdge 1850 servers running a Microsoft Windows Server operating system.
