German Health Insurer's New Hardware Improves Application Performance With Low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

At SEL Betriebskrankenkassen (BKK), a Stuttgart-based health insurer, the existing hardware infrastructure was causing significant problems. As the company had expanded, new hardware had been introduced incrementally. After six years their IT could simply no longer meet the demands placed on it. It had undergone enormous changes and the risks of failure were increasing with time. One or two applications were too slow and their staff often had considerable access problems. After examining its technology options, SEL BKK opted for a clustered-server solution from Dell. SEL BKK decided to run the new Microsoft Windows Server 2003 on Dell PowerEdge 1850 and 2850 servers. The decision to go with Dell was based on its ability to deliver standards-based hard-ware technology.
