Casino is one of France's leading food retailers, with a turnover of more than '22 billion, 20 percent of which comes from international sales. In this environment of fierce competition, the slightest differentiation factor can turn into a critical competitive edge. Accordingly, Casino wanted to apply to its own ecosystem the same concept that made it so successful: this being 'Proximity'. The fundamental goals for Casino were to improve its communication system. Casino initiated a large-scale modernization program to centralize and improve data flows, based on Web technologies and the deployment of portals-all geared to meeting the requirements of various user communities. New technologies were integrated via BEA AquaLogic User Interaction.
