First Franklin's state of information technology led to inefficient business processes and unnecessary expense. The company needed to revamp its Web infrastructure to improve the efficiency of mortgage underwriting and loan processing and to reduce costs. The company developed a new automated underwriting system on BEA WebLogic Server and used BEA WebLogic Integration to create an integrated view of loan status. It is designing all of its new applications on a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), dubbed Integrated Origination Network (ION), to support future growth and agility. The company reduced per-loan underwriting costs by at least 50 percent. It is also improving branch efficiency with tools to track and change loan status. ION provides a framework for rapid application development and deployment.
