With the growing emphasis on Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and the growing complexity in the family of Web services specifications, there is understandably confusion about such big-sounding terms as Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). Is it a product? Is it just a marketing term? Does it represent something tangible that one can actually use? How does it fit in with all of the other Web services and SOA concepts that have been passed around? Here the paper will attempt to clear up at least some of this confusion. This paper shows the role an ESB plays in an application integration and Service-Oriented Architecture.
