McAfee.com used Microsoft .NET to deliver a new and improved version of VirusScan Online, the company's flagship managed security service. Built for the smart client, VirusScan Online for Microsoft Windows XP delivers a consistent, streamlined user experience by using XML Web services to communicate behind the scenes with McAfee.com servers. Users are authenticated through Microsoft .NET Passport, eliminating the need for them to visit the company's Web site and log on before they can download new virus definitions. Microsoft .NET Alerts are designed to notify users immediately when a new virus breaks out or a virus definition update becomes available.
