University of Utah Health Sciences Center (U of U HSC) wanted to integrate critical business applications. The center was using manual procedures to enter and exchange patient data, but healthcare regulations required an electronic method for sharing insurance claim information. To automate and improve data-handling, the center implemented Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 along with Microsoft BizTalk Accelerator for HL7 and BizTalk Accelerator for HIPAA. Now U of U HSC can easily share and access patient data, and quickly implement changes to meet new regulatory requirements. The center can also deploy and integrate applications rapidly and strengthen data security. By automating data-entry procedures, the center has saved time, improved patient service, and reduced costs in labor and hardware.
