Many of the adverse environmental conditions that can cause equipment to fail remain invisible to the data center staff responsible for ensuring continuous availability of business-critical resources. The shared goal of delivering reliable value and service to the business by data center staff creates a need for controlling the factors leading to data center reliability. Monitoring the environment conditions in a computer room or data center is critical to ensuring uptime and system reliability. Given the high cost of downtime, even excellent data centers lose time and money each year in unplanned downtime. Maintaining recommended temperature and humidity levels in the data center can reduce unplanned downtime caused by environment conditions and save companies thousands or even millions of dollars per year.
