The Raiffeisen Bank Group is the largest private bank group in Austria with about 2600 bank branches. In the course of running the business, each branch had acquired two servers. The company wanted to reduce costs and provide better customer service by consolidating these to one server per branch. Raiffeisen Bank Group investigated migrating from UNIX to Linux or Microsoft Windows. After thoroughly testing the possible solutions, the company found that a single Microsoft Windows Server 2003 in each branch would provide the most economical solution along with better performance, while giving bank employees the integrated view of customer information that they needed to improve customer service.
