Wireless LAN security has improved dramatically since the introduction of IEEE 802.11 in 1997. When the most recent security standard, IEEE 802.11i, is employed, wireless networks are as secure- or more secure-as many wired network implementations. However, because of the ability of wireless LANs to penetrate beyond the physical boundaries of an enterprise, wireless threats exist from unauthorized infrastructure and clients. The good news for IT managers is that these threats can be detected and prevented using the Cisco Unified Wireless Network while it simultaneously provides service to wireless clients.
