Alpine ultimately needed a server solution that would integrate with its existing technology, increase its business flexibility, and reduce network management costs. This solution would form a solid foundation for its business workloads without adding to the workload of running the business. Alpine saw that Windows Server 2008 would answer its near-term business needs and provide a robust foundation for business growth and future workload expansion. The new server software would meet its business needs at the most basic level: interoperability. The next immediate need, a collaboration platform, was already available as Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 was already a part of Windows Server 2008.
