Black & Veatch logs as many as 1 million working hours on a construction project site, and any process improvements that reduce these hours positively affect the company's bottom line. The company saw an opportunity to streamline the information collection process on project sites - a process that had been completed by filling out paper forms and later entering the information into a computer database system. Black & Veatch used the Tablet PC, running Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, as an electronic clipboard to replace this labor-intensive, time-consuming process. The mobile and wireless components of the Tablet PC eliminate the need to enter data twice, resulting in an approximate 8-percent increase in productivity for those who use them at project sites.
