Enterprises are witnessing a server sprawl as low cost x86 boxes make their way into datacenters. Application provisioning on dedicated servers and provisioning hardware capacity for peak loads have led to unprecedented server proliferation and abysmally low utilization. Virtualization technology has the potential to play a significant role in enabling logical server consolidation. It enables enterprises to achieve higher utilization and manage their hardware resources better, thus reducing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and help contain IT spending. It is a promising technology that is seeing steady adoption. A low overhead and highly scalable virtualization solution is the key to this adoption.
