Worms, viruses, Trojans and other attacks are the biggest pain points for the modern day network administrator. In order to protect their networks against these attacks, many organizations deploy a layered approach to security. A strategy of testing and implementing vendor patches mixed with various firewall, IPS, antivirus and content filtering technologies leads to a more secure environment. Between the very real fear of zero day exploits and the challenges associated with patching, many organizations dedicate a tremendous amount of resources to addressing this problem. Despite these efforts, the problem is getting worse.
