The Radeon X1800 Series GPUs are the world's most sophisticated and powerful graphics accelerators. One of the most significant new technologies included in this design is a new ring bus memory controller, which enables support for unprecedented memory speeds and bandwidth. Together with supporting technologies, including programmable arbitration logic and a new cache design, this memory controller can also achieve extreme levels of efficiency. This paper details some of the key innovations introduced in the Radeon X1800 Series Memory Controller, and how they contribute to overall performance.
