The Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) is the fifth-largest institute of technology in New Zealand. Wintec has three main campuses in Hamilton, as well as four additional regional centers, which serve 24,000 full-time and part-time students. Seeking further growth, Wintec wanted to offer increased capability and functionality for internal communication, and online service delivery and to trim staff travel costs. The institute selected Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 for its ability to offer an expanded unified-communications environment offering instant messaging, presence capability, and face-to-face communications through Web and video conferencing. The technology has expanded staff communication, enhanced teaching, and supported new learning delivery methods. In addition, Wintec anticipates full return on investment within one year.
