The 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy wanted to build a communication network that will keep all of the stakeholders connected at all times was the main challenge. The Organizing Committee for the Turin Winter Olympics (TOROC) required a technological infrastructure that would deliver guaranteed communications throughout every event, linking some 25 sites into a 'Virtual village', and that would operate in accordance with the stringent flexibility and demands at hand. TOROC selected Nortel after a series of tests, based on its advanced and innovative applications and services as well as for the scale and reliability guarantees these services could provide. The Nortel IP Telephony network provides communications between TOROC headquarters, the international broadcasting and press center, the Olympic villages and the competition sites.
