Washington County LUT, Building Services challenge was to determine the cause of a vertical crack in a hollow structural steel column and understand what caused the crack to stop. Nelson-Owusu's FEA pre and postprocessor of choice is the Femap solution from Siemens PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) Software. He created the geometry of the column and crack using Femap's geometric modeling tools.
