For the past 10 years, closed loop RFID enabled applications; including asset management, port and access security, and Work In Process (WIP) tracking, have been core offerings in the RFID arena. These solutions have been primarily made up of proprietary RFID systems and infrastructure that were limited to tracking of high valued goods within a facility, campus or wide-area environment. However, with the proliferation of Wi-Fi based communication systems in the enterprise, the emergence of e911 technologies in cellular networks, and the global acceptance of Electronic Product Code (EPC) standards; new solution options have emerged that enable organizations to deploy asset tracking and Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS) in a more scalable, reliable, and cost effective manner.
