Mobile devices are increasingly tasked with handling email and associated data, such as address books and calendar information. This paper examines the many approaches to getting data onto to and off of the mobile device, looks at synchronization issues between the mobile device, desktop and server, outlines the Open Standards protocols designed to address these issues and recommends a model for mobile and desktop access to email, address book and calendars.
