The Belgian mobile phone market needed an efficient solution for allowing customers to move mobile phone numbers from one service provider to another. The Belgian government wanted to create a not-for-profit national database to connect competing service providers and to facilitate the transfer of information without endangering competitive data. Despite significant competition for this prestigious national project, integration specialist Porthus won the contract with a solution based on Microsoft technologies, including Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 and Microsoft SQL Server 2000. The Porthus solution stood out because of the ease of integrating it with the wide variety of technologies employed by mobile and fixed-line operators, and because it was flexible enough to respond to future market developments.
