One of the problems affecting TCP performance is packet loss, which can cause significant degradation of TCP performance over wireless network. The current implementation of TCP faces a serious problem when data packets are lost as a result of factors other than congestion. There are two causes of packet loss in a wireless environment; they are corruption and handoff loss. In an earlier study, authors have proposed an enhancement to TCP that allows TCP to differentiate between congestion loss and corruption loss. The effectiveness of the proposed solution has been demonstrated. In this paper, an extension for the earlier work has been proposed by the authors in order to recognise handoff loss.
